Student Journalism, Nationwide.
Welcome to your weekly update to college media across America. Today: the intro and a promise.
Greetings!
Welcome to Student Journalism Nationwide, a weekly newsletter dedicated to spreading stories from student journalists across the country. Whether it be an article from a campus paper, a soundbite from a radio station, or a clip from a broadcast network, if it’s student journalism, this newsletter exists to celebrate it.
I’m Alex, a journalism major at Medill. I’ll be hitting your inboxes every Friday with an assortment of student media, so you can see what’s happening on other campuses. As young journalists innovate, it’s increasingly important for us to see how traditional stories are being told in different ways.
As of right now, every newsletter will include links to two stories from each section:
News, Features, Opinions, Sports, Audio and Broadcast.
The last section, TK, will have bonus content that might not fall under those categories. For example, a compelling photo essay. It may also be a link to a trending resource or a reminder that that WSJ internship application is due in two weeks!
I’ll spend the week finding stories from a diverse list of colleges. Complete transparency, I’ll be keeping a Google spreadsheet to ensure that one college doesn’t get too much glam. We all deserve a little love here.
That being said, I’m absolutely open to receiving submissions from readers! You’re the ones with the news, after all. My Twitter DMs are always open and I can be reached at my school email as well. I’d love to see stories from student journalists all over the nation.
Lastly, I promise that no matter how broke I get as a college student, I’ll never monetize this newsletter. Media’s already hard as it is, so as long as I’m in charge, this weekly will be free.
I’ll be signing off for now…have to go read up on the latest about my own campus life this coming fall. Next issue TK!
